Unlock Password Protected PDF Files

Some PDF documents prevent the user from copying and pasting or printing it's contents. This sometimes presents a problem since the author of the PDF might have used a font that is not available in the sytem trying to read it. This page contains a free online utility that allows you to upload a PDF, once uploaded, a version of the PDF without printing or copying/pasting restrictions is displayed in a new browser window.

One solution, recommended by Ghacks, is to use PDF Unlocker which is a free PDF unlocking utility that will remove all restrictions.

You just need to upload the file and the unlocked version of the PDF without printing or copying/pasting restrictions will be displayed in a new browser window in your default PDF application

X908 - DualSIM 8MP Camera Phone

The megapixel battle isn’t just heating up in Europe, but Asia too, it would seem. The manufacturer isn’t known, but the model number is – X908. Though the phone sports an 8MP sensor, it’s possible that the megapixels are interpolated, ala the Xcute DV2, and the iMobile 902.

Its main features are listed here:
  • 3 inch TFT touchscreen
  • 240 x 320 pixels and 16 million colors
  • 115 x 55 x 20 mm
  • 140 grams
  • 8 megapixels camera with 3x optical lens
  • 2 megapixels front camera (but no 3G?)
  • dual SIM support (seems like both for GSM)
  • dual microSD slots
  • mobile TV capabilities
  • music and video players
  • FM radio
  • MMS
  • stereo Bluetooth (A2DP)
  • pre-installed NES simulator to play Nintendo Games

Google Knol Now Open

Google Knol, the Wikipedia-like service that was released in its first alpha phase in December last year is now available to everyone.

The web contains vast amounts of information, but not everything worth knowing is on the web. An enormous amount of information resides in people's heads: millions of people know useful things and billions more could benefit from that knowledge.

At its heart, Google says Knol is just a web page where authors can create topics, and link to articles and content but layered onto the Knol page are various community tools so readers will be able to submit comments, questions, edits, additional content, and so on.

The screenshot below shows a sample page from Knol.
Overall, suspicions about Google favoring its own results and once again stepping outside the bounds of its famous "don't be evil" mantra are understandable. We'll be keeping an eye on Google's search results and the development of Knol now that it's open to the public.

MobileMe Status

Steve Jobs has asked me to write a posting every other day or so to let everyone know what’s happening with MobileMe, and I’m working directly with the MobileMe group to ensure that we keep you really up to date. In the 14 days since we launched, it’s been a rocky road and we know the pain some people have been suffering. Be assured people here are working 24-7 to improve matters, and we’re going to favor getting you new info hot off the presses even if we have to post corrections or further updates later.

One issue we encountered was a mail outage affecting 1% of our members. Last Friday a serious problem with one of our mail servers blocked those members’ access to their MobileMe mail accounts. As of today a team was able to restore limited web access to those accounts so the affected members can use their browsers to read mail that has arrived since last Friday (though not before) as well as send and receive new mail. The team has already begun rolling out restoration of full access for all the accounts and expect to finish by the end of next week. We particularly regret to report the loss in the affected accounts of approximately 10% of the messages received between July 16 and July 18.

The day we launched MobileMe, we had a lot more traffic to our servers than we anticipated, with the result that access to the web versions of the MobileMe applications — Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Gallery, iDisk — was temporarily unavailable. We’ve since added server capacity and tuned our software to scale better — i.e. behave more gracefully when traffic spikes. The team has also fixed over 70 bugs including one that was preventing MobileMe IMAP mail folders from syncing correctly between the web app and Mac OS X Mail or Outlook, plus others correcting display issues in Calendar and in general enhancing the performance of our web apps.

We’ll post another update later this weekend to report on status and hopefully further progress.

Google Talk on the iPhone

Google has officially released a new version of Google Talk designed specifically for the iPhone and iPod Touch browsers. In addition to sending your friends Gmail messages from your iPhone, you can now chat with them while you're on the move, too!

It even includes the option for multi-user chat, a feature still absent from the desktop and Gmail client. Apple may of forgot iChat on the iPhone, but IM is alive and well with Google Talk.

In your iPhone browser, just go to www.google.com/talk, sign in and start chatting. This is a web app so you don’t need to download or install anything.

From now on you will never miss any latest gossip or updates from friends just because you're away from a computer.

Softmaker Office 2006 Free Full Version Download

Softmaker Office is commercial office productivity suite developed by software company in Nuremberg, Germany, and is flagship application product of the company.

In an ideal world, you could create a Word or Excel document on your desktop PC, put it on your Windows CE PDA, edit and format it on the road, and then send it back to the office as a .DOC or .XLS file, with content and all formatting still intact.

Unfortunately, it does not work that way. Microsoft's Office Mobile is, after all these years, still not able to reliably open Microsoft Office files without massive data loss – all functions and formatting that it does not know, are silently stripped and thrown away.

Pocket Excel doesn't fare much better: It supports just a quarter of the mathematical functions of Microsoft Excel and silently drops the rest when opening an Excel file. Carefully designed charts are reduced to pre-school drawings or thrown away completely. It does not support any drawing functions, AutoShapes or cell comments!

iPhone Timeline

The iPhone buzz started at MacWorld 07 where Steve Jobs announced that Apple will soon be releasing a touchscreen phone i.e. the iPhone.

The first public signs of the iPhone were way back in 1999, when Apple registered iPhone.org. Silver from iPhoneGold has put together a great timeline showing the history of the legendary iPhone, including domain registrations, trademarks.

The following visual iPhone timeline can explain it no better.

Back in 1999 when Apple registers the domain iPhone.org and makes it redirect to Apple.com. More interesting facts can be seen on the timeline.

Wordle : Create Fancy “Word Clouds” from Text

Wordle is a simple and lovely art tool for generating “Word Clouds” from text. If you have no idea what word clouds are, look at the sample screenshot below. To create a word cloud, Wordle asks you to enter some source text. There are two options here, you can either generate a cloud from the text you provided it with or tell Worlde to use your del.icio.us tags instead. Pretty simple han?Just like a tag cloud, it picks all of the high-frequency words in your Blog feed and arranges them in a stylish manner in order of their occurrence. The only difference is that unlike a tag cloud, words are not linked to tags on your blog.

It includes the following features:

* Quickly create cool word clouds from any text (or use your del.icio.us tags).
* Create and save as many clouds as you like.
* Customize Word Clouds using different fonts, layouts and color schemes.
* Save pictures on Wordle Gallery for everyone to see.
* Print out Word Clouds you like.
* No sign-up or registration required.
